I have been using WordPress for a lot of custom blog stuff for a while, and I am really into this platform. It is flexible and easy to use, even for your users to sign in and post without help. I would also love to go to WordCamp, but like you it is most likely not in the cards for me either.

I can't say that I'll be going either, but I'll chime in for the "I wish I could go" and the "I love me some wordpress" crowds.
It's an amazingly flexible platform, and the plugin structure is pretty serious genius. It would be a really unique opportunity to hang around with some of the brains that make wp and all of its contributed plugin and theme goodness happen.
