The new features in question are:
Deleting all spam messages - no need to select>all, then delete.
Apply filter to - creating and applying filters to messages, helping to keep mail organized
There is no news as to the release date of these new features, but there have been rumored sightings of individuals who have been getting the "delete all spam" button.

The "Delete All Spam" feature is already active on my GMail account. Haven't checked for the other one yet.
Remember, Google frequently selects accounts randomly and turns on features to for testing.

I've got both "delete all spam" in the spam folder and a very similar "empty trash now" in the trash folder. Have been wondering about that.

Yes, I have the "Delete All Spam" button, as well. I was wondering why I didn't see anything about the new feature.

I just looked and, I've got it.
I wonder if they are making attempts at features that make it easier to use less space? My mailbox size alone is ridiculous, and I know many other people who face the same issue.

I've had the delete all spam for about 2 days now. It's great. Yahoo mail has had it forever so it was extra annoying that Gmail did not.
Grant - If they really want to cut down on mailbox usage they should enfore the "Spam will be automatically deleted after 30 days". I have a junk account I don't check much and there is spam in there that is more than 6 months old.

I also have both features now. However, these are not buttons. They are just links, as can be seen in an image on the blog I have linked to below.
Ironically, it takes the same amount of clicks/actions to delete all messages as it did before (thanks to the confirmation pop-up that displays). Now, instead of clicking 'Select All' followed by 'Delete Forever', you click the 'Delete All Spam' link followed by the 'OK' button on the confirmation dialog. I have never understood why developers choose to replace one process with another that does not really save the user any time.

mmhmm
i dont have either
:(

I was thinking about this, and I can see where it would save some time if you had more than one page worth of spam. I believe the 'Select All' link will only select all of the items on the current page.

I've had the "apply filter" for about a week or two--it works great.

Digging around inside gmail, if you select all the conversations on a page of a label, it'll ask you if you want to select *all* the conversations with that label.
So, with three clicks I was able to delete all 8,000 email messages I had fallen behind in reading. (and had been putting off going through the process of deleting) **Finally!**
So, you can select all trash, all spam, or all of a label in one swipe. And you can apply filters to existing conversatoins. Been a long time coming.
I have to admit that those were the only showstoppers to Gmail's use, IMHO.

My delete all spam function is now gone. I had it on Friday and Saturday and then on Sunday it disappeared.

adin -- you're lucky to have the feature that deletes all mail in a label. When I select All, Gmail selects only the first page of mail, and does not offer anything more extensive. I've been waiting for that function ... the lack of it is one of Gmail's biggest downfalls.

This is all well and good BUT when is Google going to introduce something as simple as FOLDERS to their service. It's the one thing that prevents me from making GMail my primary e-mail service.

oh ya Pete! Folders! Are we the only ones that want that option? I just dont understand why folders have not been incorporated into Gmail! Doesnt make sense to me at all. I have like millions of emails in my account, and even though there is the search feature.. i still cant find stuff!
Lets start a petition!!!!!
PeteJul 11th 2006 12:36PM
A petition is a great idea but I have a feeling Google won't budge on this concept. However, using Google, I found a possible work around here:

I'll be trying it out at home soon!

Pete - Awesome tip. Thanks! It really helps to stop my Gmail inbox from filling up with things I don't need to deal with right away.
