See Windows Vista demo site

Microsoft has a marketing site up called See Windows Vista, where Tom Skerrit invites you click on links to view videos describing the virtues of Vista. Although the site is very polished, and has a few nice touches (leave your browser sitting on the site for awhile and Tom will do a few cute things to try to draw you back in), I can't help but notice that while the site works under Firefox, it occasionally has some rendering problems. Regardless, if you're looking to be convinced why upgrading to Vista will be a good thing, this is perfect for you.

Couple of hiccups while viewing the site, pretty though. But, like Apple's 'Pro' section, the vignettes show what is special about computers not any one platform. And I think it is a bit funny that Microsoft has to use Flash to make this web site, Apple used QuickTime for theirs.
If you did not no anything about computers and saw these two sites, which do you think you would be drawn to?

I agree, it looks very polished, but I'd much rather see how vista makes my life better day to day, rather than in these special situations.

That speaker is Tom Selleck (aka richard from friends)?

Claudiu - Did you watch the program? The first words out of his mouth are "Thanks for visiting. I'm Tom Skerrit."

"Hi, I'm Tom Skerritt, you may remember me from such film as The Hunt for the Unicorn Killer or the See Windows Vista web site. However, I am not, and do not even look like, and just about 12 years older than Tom Seleck. You may remember of Tom Selleck as Magnum P.I. or that hillarious gay character in In & Out."

Also, I really need alot more than that to convince me that transparent eye candy and rotating windows are going to make my life "better".
I would be *totally* happy with Windows 2000 if it had Cleartype(tm) font smoothing. Yes. I'm happy with less.

Windows 2000 does have font smoothing? http://www.microsoft.com/typography/grayscal/smoother.aspx (Other Operating Systems section).

Thanks for the info. Sounds turned off, that's why I didn't hear him. I clicked around for a couple of seconds and got bored.
