AOL to offer VoIP with free incoming local calls
According to USA Today, late this month AOL (this blogger's employer) will be rolling out its own free Skype-like VoIP
service called AIM Phoneline. Its biggest defining feature will be a free local phone number, but for incoming
calls only. A $14.95 subscription will allow users to make calls to any U.S. numbers as well as 30 foreign countries,
but that capability will initially be available only in the top 50 markets. Unsurprisingly, AIM Phoneline will be
integrated directly into AIM, which by iteself is enough to make it a contender. It will also come with free voicemail
(integrated into AOL e-mail) and a reputation system to help weed out telemarketers and other annoyances.[Via Slashdot]
