Get in on the Yahoo! Mail Beta right now
Been dying to try the new AJAXed-out Yahoo! Mail
Beta? Well it turns out it only takes a few simple steps to switch your Yahoo! Mail account over to the new hotness.
There's instructions over at the
curiously-named Google Operating System, but they're a little vague, so here's the step-by-step:
- Log into Yahoo! Mail and click on "My Account" and enter your password if prompted.
- On the Account
Info page next to the "Member Information" header click on "Edit."
- Under
"General Preferences" click on the link next to "Language & Content" or "Preferred
Content" (mine says "Yahoo! U.S.").
- On the subsequent page in the "New Setting" box choose Yahoo! United Kingdom, Germany, or France.
- Click "Finished" and then "Finished" again on the next page.
- You'll be prompted to sign a new TOS and then you should get
an offer to join the Yahoo! Mail Beta.
Once you've joined, the setting will stick, so you can go back to "My Account" and switch your Language & Content setting back to whatever it was before. If you decide you don't like it, click on the "Switch Back" link at the top. As usual, your results may vary and there's no telling if and when Yahoo! will pull the plug on this particular trick.

Sweet!!! It works like a charm. I love the new interface, but I don't like the ugly banner ads on the right.

Nice. Thanks for the tip. I like the way they have integrated the RSS feeds into the interface. Gmail should take a tip there. Makes it much easier to forward stories and posts.
wRecker - use Firefox and Adblock and you don't have to see any annoying ads.

as a paying mail subscriber, i've had access to the beta for a few months. the layout is nice but the simple fact that i cannot cut and paste a working link into my messages is a deal killer.
cutting and pasting a link ends up as plain text. you have to then highlight that text, and then click a toolbar button which causes a pop-up to change it into a link . garbage. i went back to the old version a long time ago.

murph - you may want to give it another shot. I see what you are describing, but it does turn into a link for the recipient even if you don't change it from plain text in the message. It also becomes a link once the message goes into my sent items.

looks like they may have caught onto this scheme. Language settings does not show up for me under General Preferences.

Rothgar: It seems that depending on your settings it says "Preferred Content" instead of "Language & Content." It's the same setting, though, and clicking on it should get you to the next link.

I tried preferred contenent but at first I selected France. Then realized I don't know French. I used UK and everything worked.
Thanks

I tried the cut & paste feature on the new Yahoo Mail Beta and as I've seen in another posting it doesn't work. When I leave this site I'm going back to the old version.

How do I get back to the Beta version?
I switched back to the old view and now I have no idea how to come back to the Beta version.
