Apple Store blocking MySpace
What do malls have? Apple Stores and teenagers. What do Apple Stores have? Macs connected to the
Internet. What do mall-prone teenagers like more than anything? MySpace. You get the idea. Apparently some Apple Stores
have been so deluged with people using display computer to browse MySpace and not buying anything that they've begun to
block MySpace from store computers, according to ifoAppleStore. Now, loiterers
at those stores who try to visit MySpace.com are instead redirected to Apple.com. For some reason I find this

That's not it at all. They're trying to sell those machines, right? Apple products are beautiful, but they want to make sure that they stay that way... they keep them clean and whatnot so that they will look appealing to potential customers. A layer of dust or some scuffs and scratches will make the machines less attractive, but nothing will send anyone with the slightest bit of taste (those who might actually buy a Mac) running faster than having one of those hideous myspace pages on the screen. Apple has to maintain its image of being cool and tasteful, and myspace is the antithesis of that.

MySpace is ridiculous. That said, I have an account... I am ridiculous...
But I know a thing or two about MySpace and it makes me sick. Apple's got every right. It IS a little funny that you get redirected to the Apple site, though. I think it would be much wiser of them to say "This is an Apple Store, not an internet cafe, what could POSSIBLY be on your MySpace that you need to check it while you're not at home?" because most people are stupid, and would not receive that message simply from the redirection to the Apple site...
Anyway, I hate MySpace, and I love Apple - understand?

Heh, this is funny. What's funnier is that MySpace makes my iBook hammer the processor at 100% on every page. Between the glut of Flash ads (all for dating services, LOLROFLMAOMG), and the obscene things in Javascript, the OS just isn't made for it. Rather, 3rd party developers haven't properly coded their plugins, ahem.
So I just wonder if a quad-G5 (now a bit pokey considering the Intels) bogs down Aperture while MySpace is running in Safari? Not that one person could possibly be using both of those at the same time. I mean, all you need is a camera phone to take cheesecake shots ;)

Perhaps they could block a few other sites, so that when you go to the Apple Store and are genuinely interested in trying out the computers, you're not faced with dozens of people checking their email, with no interest at all in buying anything at all.
I was in the London store a few weeks back and it was ridiculous. I wanted to try out a MacBook Pro (oh, so tempting) and all I got to play with (for a few minutes) was an iBook. Everything else was jam packed.

I'm the I.T. guy for a small company of about 25. I also have Remote Desktop on the Admin machine. It blows my mind how often I take a look at someone's machine and see Myspace smiling back at me. I bet we loose $1000 a day in productivity. Drives me nuts.

At least here in Honolulu, they're not just browsing MySpace. They're taking advantage of all those built-in cameras and Photo Booth to take pictures for their MySpace pages! Apparently the practice was downright overwhelming during Spring Break.
