Digg Upgrades Commenting System
Social news and bookmarking site Digg has long suffered from what one might call a "mediocre" commenting
system. It was bare-bones, without the ability to edit one's comment after submitting it, and offering no filtering
mechanism to avoid having to read a myriad of "me too" posts.
Thankfully, this weekend Kevin Rose announced the release of a new and improved comment system that allows editing of posts for up to 3 minutes after submission, as well as the ability to digg or bury comments. This allows for a very nice slashdot-esque filtering system whereby you can, for example, only view comments that have been dugg at least 10 times (my personal new default).
Digg got a lot more useful to me with this update.

I have my display set to display all the posts. I kept spending my time wondering WHY people were getting such high negatives on their comments. I'm not that crazy about the infinite digging and burying that the new system allows. I've seen triple digit negative scores for comments that are perfectly reasonable... although unpopular.
The "reply" system is also troublesome. It's great that you have some threading... but it's quite limited. I can't reply to every post for some reason. And when you do reply, you're sent down to the bottom of the page. That's ok when there's one or two comments. But 500?

REALLY like the new system. At first glance it seems complicated, but it really isn't, and it does it's job perfectly. Plus it's all AJAXy, and really, who doesn't love that stuff?
