Microsoft sets its sights on Craigslist with Windows Live Expo
Microsoft is
taking a whack at Craigslist, and to a lesser extent Google Base, with Windows Live Expo,
which it describes as "an online marketplace and social networking site." It's in private beta right now, but
touts some interesting features like like the ability to restrict your listings to your personal network, integration
with MSN Spaces, and "detailed maps and directions for things like garage sales, homes for sale or concerts."
You can keep track of the the project on the Live Expo team blog,
or try to get on the beta at the Windows Live Expo
site.[Via Paul Stamatiou]

How do you ad a live link to the expo site? I can't figure it out. I think its a pretty good thing, this EXPO. I posted an ad and found it at the top of the search term I was targeting in about 10 minutes. If I could figure out how to add a live link, that would be golden. My Expo link is number one, My craigslist ad is number two and my topix ad is number 3.

IRA, Imm not sure what OS/browser you are using, but I use Firefox and it was impossible to create a live link.
However, upon loading IE and editing the ad, any link entered becomes "live" while editing it in the text box. Same method as described in the instructions for adding a link in these comments. It took some trial and error before I realized it was a browser specific problem.
Regarding Expo, I am loathe to support Microsoft in general, but my company needs sales reps in multiple states, and while being a good Craigslist member and not double posting in multiple city/states, I feel compelled to turn to any free classified I can find online. Clearly Expo is a rip of Craigslist, but in this case, to get some extra exposure I don't feel like I have a choice if I am going to follow the rules and be a good netizen (unlike so many others out there).

Thanks, beingzoe. I have been using firefox. Next time, I'll use IE7 when editing my entries. I didn't even think about the browser.

What a shock that Microsoft would take someone else's great idea and make it their own. It's so unlike them. I'll stick to Craig's List...

Yea, an online classifieds. BRILLIANT idea Tom. How did Craigslist ever think of that one? How could the evil MS steal such a unique idea like that and make it better?
