The "service pack roadmap" document you linked from Microsoft was published in 2003. A little stale I guess.
Another good question: will Microsoft continue to support "activation" of OS (or products) after they are not supported anymore? I know, I know, why would you want to run XP or office 2004 in like 2009? But still, since the software has never been "yours" would MS be mean enough to cut you off when they see fit?

Fabulo: The page was updated in the last few weeks according to Bink.nu, and the Internet Archive confirms that it has been changed many times since '03. Your question about activation is interesting, though.
