New version of iTunes tells Apple your listening habits

iTunes Mini-StoreWhen you update to iTunes 6.0.2, released yesterday, the first thing you'll notice is the "Mini-Store," a new pane at the bottom of iTunes that tries to sell you music. It's on by default, and as though that weren't presumptuous enough, it also turns out that the Mini-Store constantly sends Apple information on what music you're listening to. Without asking your permission. No, not even the EULA. Cute trick, Apple—the Mini-Store could have been a handy way for me to discover new music and make you a few pennies in the process, but you didn't ask my permission, or tell me how you plan to use that information, and now it's getting turned off.
