Bittorrent and MPAA sharing love?
Dante's Inferno has never been colder. In a couple of hours the MPAA, champion of Hollywood and bane of p2p, and Bram Cohen's Bittorrent, scourge of Hollywood and blessing to p2p, will be holding a joint press conference. Check your calendar— April is a looong way from here. This is not a joke. Cinematical is reporting this is for real. Naturally, no details regarding what this is all about, but Cohen almost gushes with his comments on the discussions he's apparently been having with the MPAA. Says Cohen in a recent Newsweek article, "Everyone knows that things are changing, and I believe he's very interested in adapting. I was really surprised at how if you go to them nonconfrontationally they respond in kind." Well I've never confronted the MPAA, but I would like to know why I can't push my movies onto my iPod without appearing on America's Most Hated... May you be born in interesting times, eh?Update: The Peer-to-Peer Weblog's Brad Hill has a wrap-up and his thoughts on the Bittorrent/MPAA announcement. He's as non-plussed as I am.

All I can say is, a lot of us college going people maybe back to choosing whether we spend $10 on that movie ticket or our dinner for that night. The MPAA is clever, instead of wiping it out, they're letting it die on its own, since popularity will decline after piracy track downs. But good luck to Cohen and his business plan.
We'll wait for the next great client to save us.
