Opinions about Windows XP’s “Luna” interface vary all over the map, from those that find the bright colors refreshing, to those that think it looks like “Windows XP brought to you by Playskool ™”. Personally, I tend to lean towards the second opinion, but I still find it better than the classic Windows 2000 look. Well, there’s a way to keep the nicer-looking XP and update to a less juvenile color scheme - it’s called the
Royale theme, and it was created by Microsoft for XP Media Center Edition and XP Tablet Edition PCs. In fact, for a long time, the only way to get this theme (which simply amounts to a much more attractive color scheme) was to purchase a PC with one of those versions of XP on it. Fortunately, any XP user can now download Royale and take advantage of it’s much more attractive grown up colors.

Just how to make it work though, is a mystery.

When you enable the Energy Blue (Royale) theme you will find Outlook then displays in an ugly gray way. A fix for this is on my web site:

Oh yeah. If you want different colours, someone's modded it: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/8521744/
You'll need to patch Windows though: http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=140707

Check out XPize.

"XPize is a GUI enhancer that replaces most of the non-XP icons, avis and bmps that Microsoft has always overlooked."
It's a one click installer which will give a fresh look to Windows XP.

I have to second the recommendation of XPize. And I found the Royale theme really didn't look all that good. The shading on the titlebars looked pretty assy, at least on my machine.
