Here's some great news if you're a fan or user of FolderShare: as part of the company's
recent acquisition by Microsoft,
FolderShare will now be offering all of its services for free.
Customers who've pre-paid for a plan will receive a pro-rata refund.
According to the company, they are "discontinuing the paid Foldershare
services and offering a free
version of the service instead, which has many of the capabilities of
the previous paid versions." Of course, this may not be great news for
customers who paid for FolderShare's $100 per year professional
service, since the level of the new free service may well be more akin
to the previous $50 per year personal version. Also unclear is whether
Microsoft will try to bring in revenue from FolderShare through
advertising or other streams. For now, however, this is your chance to
get a great service that was previously $50 a year for absolutely
nothing.

I was checking this out today and suddenly realized what a cool and very useful piece of software this is. I went to the section for accessing your files via the web, and thought being able to browse any of my drives on my remote machines was great, but then I tried a search since I had Google's Desktop Search on my machines and it seemed to work great! In the results you get a nice page with results from all or a single machine. The setup and use is simple, and to me it seems to work great. I can think of many uses for this. Oh and best of all, it's free!
