Sony halts rootkit CD production
After a week of increasingly angry responses from consumers, Sony BMG has finally decided to stop making CDs using its controversial DRM "rootkit." In a statement, the company admitted no wrongdoing, and said "as a precautionary measure, Sony BMG is temporarily suspending the manufacture of CDs containing XCP technology." The move may do little to quell consumer frustration, however, since Sony remains committed to using DRM on future CD releases.

Don't see this as a satisfactory solution for consumers. If they do away w/the DRM protected CDs for good and release an uninstaller for the rootkit - then maybe. Sorry Sony - love your products, but no more VAIOs, Walkman phones, Cybershots, PSPs, or Playstations on my wish list anymore. Lesson #1 - consumers vote w/their money. F'ck the consumer, you lose, game over.

and there will always be some sort of bypass to copy your favorite CD's, be it a counter-root-kit or just the simplest way of all, play your CD in your home stereo and plug it into the mic entrance of your computer, compress and voil?free MP3...

All of this hassle that Sony has been creating makes for bad public relations in the mind of your average Joe and Jane Best Buyer. They continue to hear stuff like this ("Sony infects computers with spyware" is what they hear, even if this isn't totally true), and will decide not to buy Sony products. There are tons of other electronics companies (Samsung, Canon, Dell, HP, Toshiba, Apple, etc.) who make products that are just as good, if not better.

Lol i find it to be funny. But it does not bother me because I dont buy music cd's and never will. and never bought a CD player. I use "Alternative Methods" of obtaining music. ;-) lets just say i dont believe in making musicians rich , no matter how good they can sing.
