liveplasma and KartOO, a couple of wacky Flash search engines
Two Flash-driven search engines that look awful purty: Liveplasma (for entertainment), and KartOO (for anything). KartOO has been around for a while now. I remember using it right around the millenium. When you search, it creates a sort of mind map, or hierarchical web of results, with tree branches leading to similar search results. There's a little preview of found pages when you roll over them, which in itself is nice, but it doesn't always work...Liveplamsa lets you search for movies and music by titles or artists, then displays (graphically) orbs of similar search results. Drilling down the map reorganizes everything based on that new result. It's fun to watch, if not terribly understandable. The spheres and lines connecting them look like Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider pictures. Very hard to really see what's going on there. Entertaining nonetheless, and a cool way to find new stuff by looking for your old stuff.

Man I love the liveplasma application. It looks cool and it conveys so much information. Try counting all the facts it displays in one screen, there are many.
