Ask Download Squad: What media player(s) do you use?
Our last question, on Web-based apps,
drew some clear winners. Unsurprisingly, Gmail was a big hit, as were
web-based feed aggregators like Bloglines. Also popular: calendars and
organizers, including Backpack, Kiko and Airset. This week, it's back to the desktop for a look at two of last week's biggest announcements. Last Tuesday, Microsoft and Real ended their long conflict, with Microsoft putting $761 million into Real, and giving Real a place on MSN for the Rhapsody service. Meanwhile, the company that was most responsible for driving the two rivals into each other's arms, Apple, rolled out a video-capable iPod, and with it a new version of iTunes, which includes the ability to purchase videos from the iTunes Music Store.
So, our question: What do you use to manage media on your computer? Real Player? Windows Media Player? ITunes? Yahoo Music Engine? One of the old standbys like MusicMatch or WinAmp? More than one — or none — of the above? Post your answer in the Comments section below. And, if you'd like to have your question included here, send it to us using this form. We'll post one question each week.

WinAmp 5.x's Media Library for audio. xplorer^2 for all other media management/standard file management. Media Player Classic for video player. The Godfather also comes in handy.

J. River's MEDIA CENTER hands down. I've tried most of the others, but Media Center's the only one that does it all in one package. It has no probs handling my 50k of mp3s and 10k of .ape files (btw Monkey's Audio was developed by one of the J.River guys), virtually all the other apps bogged down to a crawl with anything over 5000 files.
MC handles just about every file type out there (audio/video/photo/documents). It fully customizable, you tag and organize your files the way you want to. The visies are excellent and G-Force can be integrated.
You can sync up with most portables, hook up with your Tivo and it also has multi-zone capabillities. I could go on, but you get the idea, I love Media Center.

WinAmp 5 for all Audio. Media Player Classic for all video (it plays WMV, QuickTime, Real, /everything/). And it's lightweight/minimalistic/fast.

I tried Winamp and WMP, but J River Media Center is the best I have found so far. The only issue I have with it is that it isn't the most stable player on the planet.
