First it was
Microsoft. Then it was
Google and Comcast. Now, it's
Yahoo's turn for a place
in the rumor mill over a possible AOL deal. Yahoo reportedly has had
"early stage" discussions with Time Warner about taking a possible
stake in the company. Such a match could be a big blow to both Google
and Microsoft's ambitions in the web advertising business; AOL is
Google's largest single source of revenue, and a combined AOL and Yahoo
would dwarf all other web sites in terms of traffic. Meanwhile, it
looks like AOL's dial-up business remains the odd-man out, with all
rumors focusing on the company's content properties.
