Bryan Starbuck, the development lead for Outlook Express, has revealed on his
blog that the app will be renamed to Windows Mail. As always these days, combating spam is top priority and its received a lot of attention. Thankfully, there are going to be a lot of functionality enhancements too, as there's a new "search as you type" feature, and mail will be indexed as individual messages which will play a lot nicer with searching from outside the app.
I found a 45 minute interview with Bryan at
Channel 9 on some of the intricacies of Windows Mail, and check out
Bryan's blog at MSN Spaces for yet more info on Windows Mail getting all growed up.

The name switch makes sense to me. 'Outlook' doesn't say much about the name of a product, yet Mail makes perfect sense. Only thing I'm curious about is if Mac OS's similarly named program had anything to do with it.

Ummm... What's with the "Checkin Mail?" Is that the name of a folder? Is MS trying to get hip? "Yo, bitch, we be checkin' de mail up in dis hizzouse!"

I don't think I would ever go back to OE no matter what they decide to call it.
I have lost too much email by relying on it. I'm no gmail now and very happy :)

Windows Mail... Apple Mail...
Mail in OS X sure looks a hell of a lot nicer.

RE: #2
That's from an email. It's a checking account with 1 letter missing.
But how 'bout those scrollbars? Ew!
