New in Office 12: the MiniBar
No,
Microsoft isn't trying to ply you with liquor and have their way with
you (they don't need to get you drunk to do that). The Microsoft
minibar is an in-context toolbar in Office 12 that pops up as you
select text, offering you formatting options without requiring you to
drag, drag, drag that mouse back up to the toolbar. According to Microsoft's Jensen Harris,
the minibar automatically appears in "ghosted" mode as you select text,
and gradually fades in as you mouse up to it. If you don't want to use
it, mouse away and it's gone. The minibar can also be disabled if you
find it too annoying (though it certainly sounds far less annoying —
and much more useful — than other Office "enhancements," like the
infamous Clippy).[Via the Office Weblog]

This actually sounds like a great feature to me. For all the talk about Office 12 being a crazy freakshow of wayward "innovation," I'm actually looking forward to seeing what it's actually like to use. And I haven't been even remotely interested in an Office release since.. never.

Thats... pretty damn useful-ish.
I'm still not buying Office unless if comes with extra stick of ram it'd take to run it, but that's pretty useful.
Maybe if they added a mini-game where we can torture good old Clippy in unusual and inventive ways.
