Sure, the rumors about Google Office, GoogleOS, etc. have been flying
fast and furious for a while. But the latest is certainly worth
repeating: tomorrow Google and Sun will be holding a joint press
conference, the subject of which is said to be the roadmap for the
Google version of Star Office/OpenOffice. Will this be an online, "Web
2.0" version of OO.o? Or a desktop-based, Google-integrated app? Only
time (and very little of it, apparently) will tell, but it's clear that
Google is interested in OO.o; they recently hired Joerg Heilig, a Sun
developer with a long history in Star Office and Open Office. One thing
is certain: All eyes will be on Mountain View tomorrow, when Google's
Eric Schmidt and Sun's Scott McNealy make their big announcement.

Google Office.... Hmmm.
Im gonna do the world a favor and not write a page-long post about how I love Google's products (gMail, Maps, Talk, etc).
Just recall the opening Monkies and Monolith scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey,. Put the Google logo on the big black block, and instead of a bone, put a keyboard or something in it's place. And you'll get what I'm trying to say.

One thing's for sure: if it's a desktop app, it'll be Windows only.

I'll say it again, I'm all for Google, I think they have some lovely little apps that are quite good fun. But Office? No, sorry. This is where we start to see Google tumble. The millions of people that have slagged-off Microsoft will now shift their attentions to Google.
