BitTorrent is raising capital in an effort to create a business out of P2P, at least one other P2P-related company is calling it quits: Sam Yagan, president of MetaMachine, which runs
eDonkey, told a Senate committee: "
I'm throwing in the towel." Emboldened by the Supreme Court decision on Grokster, both lawmakers and the record industry have stepped up their efforts to crack down on P2P providers. After announcing that it had received a cease-and-desist letter from the RIAA, eDonkey said it was in the process of complying, and would convert the service to a "closed" P2P environment. Meanwhile, the "old" eDonkey is still open, though it presumably won't be for long.
