MacJournal reviewed

macjournalDan Schimpf's MacJournal used to be one of the best free note-taking/journaling programs for the Mac. But times have changed, and the program is now commercial, distributed by Mariner Software, home of the Mariner Write and Mariner Calc programs. AppleLinks took a look at the latest version of the program, which now goes for $24.95, and found it to be a "tremendously helpful program that no writer should be without." I'm not entirely convinced. While I like the program, I find it hard to justify the price. For $5 less, I find DevonNote to be more robust, and  for blogging (one of MacJournal's less well-implemented features) ecto (which is just $17.95) is still the one to beat. Still, gotta give Schimpf props for continuing to make the free version available, so if that one does all you need (and, like I said, it is one of the best free note-taking/journaling programs for the Mac), you may not even need the commercial version.
