Veoh 1.0 beta 'peercasting' software

veohThis whole distributed video movement is getting really interesting, with stuff like IPTV and apps like DTV making the rounds. A company by the name of Veoh Networks Inc has just added to the mix with a 1.0 beta offering of Veoh, a 'peercasting' video app that seems to be another variant on the theme of bittorrent for video files.

Available for Windows and OS X, Veoh creates a "virtual television network" using P2P-like architecture for content distribution. What's interesting is that, while the ability for content providers to charge for their content doesn't exist - yet, Veoh Networks Inc has stated they plan to have that option available for the public release in the future.

While I haven't tested a copy yet, it looks like a pretty slick app. However, with so many options debuting from a wide variety of sources from big corporate all the way down to grassroots movements, I'm hoping that some clear winners can emerge soon to help give the distributed television movement direction. Check out Veoh for yourself and let us know your thoughts on this emerging technology.
