I wish I'd seen this site months ago. For those of you that need to install Quicktime to be able to view online content presented in that format, Apple has been bundling iTunes and forcing its installation. While there's nothing wrong with the iTunes software - in fact, the current version is quite nice - those of us that don't use it for our music management are just forced to install unneeded and unwanted software on our systems. Why won't companies learn that bundling is bad, and consumers don't like it? It turns out that Apple in fact does have a standalone installer for Quicktime, but does not publicly show a link to it, effectively hiding it from the public. Well, the folks at Tech-Recipes are maintaining
a link to the standalone version of Quicktime, and intend to keep the link up to date even if Apple moves it again.

I agree whole-heartedly with the issue of software bundling. It smacks of deceit. But, while I will stop short of defending Apple, I will say that they did bow to pressure and have included a link to a stand-alone version of Quicktime. If you go to the link for the Windows version (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html) you have to use a big magnifying glass and squint into the right part of the screen where you'll barely make out "QuickTime Standalone Installer". I don't recall it being there in the past and I think it cheezed off too many folks. That's one for the good guys!

And why does this matter at all when you can just download the Quicktime Alternative and avoid the crappy software entirely?

All you have to do is download the Itunes installer and if you have WinRaR installed, right click it and choose extract to etc etc. and all the files will be extracted and inside you will find the stand alone Quicktime Installer.

Dear Jason. Hate to make you look like an ignoramus, but you're an ignoramus and you're 100% wrong. Right there on the download page: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html or http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/mac.html - is a link for the QuickTime Standalone Installer.
Okay, I agree, it's not very prominent. But you'll earn a lot more respect if you don't type something that's a 100% falsehood. The link IS visible on the main download page.
