Dig deep with Gmaps - Today's Time Waster
Remember the old saw about ending up in China if you dug a deep enough hole? Well, now you can find out if it's true or not without having to break out $20 billion to build a super-drill. The latest handy Google Maps application is Luis Felipe Cipriani's "If I dig a very deep hole, where I go to stop?" Just choose your starting point, click "Dig Here," and in about a second, you'll get a pointer labeled "Your hole ends here!" For the record, a hole dug in New York ends up not in China, but in the Indian Ocean just off of Australia.[Via Digg (heh, heh)]

About three years ago I wrote a PHP script that did this exact thing; you typed in the name of a city and it would show you a MapQuest map of where you'd end up if you dug straight down from there. Of course, it's a lot cooler with the Google Maps mojo.
