IBM to supply advanced data-mining tool to GM
IBM will supply General Motors with an advanced data mining system that will scour the web looking for customer complaints related to GM products. The idea, according to the companies, is to identify issues early — whether they're discussed in blogs, written about in online versions of mainstream publications, or appear elsewhere — and act to address them before they spiral out of control. GM plans to use the system, known as IBM Quality Insight for Automotive, to address quality and warranty issues, and says the tools could help cut 5% off of warranty claims. For example, consistent blog postings about a faulty part could lead GM engineers to address the issue earlier than they otherwise would, fixing the problem for cars still under assembly. Sounds useful, and I can imagine other companies wanting to get their hands on a similar system, though I can also imagine that some of them would be less interested in using it to address QA issues, and more concerned about going after their critics.[Via Autoblog]
