P2P on eDonkey, opening the floodgates
While BitTorrent may be the darling of the media world, eDonkey is purportedly gaining share quickly across the world. Especially as torrent sites are shutting down faster than DOS machines on Y2K... BetaNews relays data from a CacheLogic study that shows BT and eDonkey neck-and-neck in terms of traffic, and eDonkey surpassing BT in some countries. I've been a fan of eDonkey since they finally released a Mac client (still in beta, naturally)... But there are clients for Linux and Windows as well. eDonkey has always seemed better at searches than most other p2p apps, and it's very robust when my computer crashes or the power suddently goes out. Even through all the LowID nonsense and port-forwarding I've had to do as security has gotten tighter around the house (and world?), eDonkey is still my preferred client. I think BitTorrent makes sense from the standpoint that it's more efficient for a given network, and you can "control" the source of videos to an extent (like Systm downloads for instance), whereas eDonkey is typically used via search.[via BetaNews]
