Looks like not too many of you are into structured text editing (either that or you're all out at the beach). The response to
last week's question was relatively light, though some previously mentioned programs, such as Treepad, resurfaced as favorites. This week, we're going to follow up on Victor's "
Virgin Install" series and ask: what's the first thing you install when you get a new computer or reinstall/upgrade your OS? Is it anti-virus software? A favorite game? Third-party drivers? Let us know! Post your answer in the Comments section below. And, if you'd like to have your question included here, send it to us
using this form. We'll post one question each week.

After installing XP on computers at work on a monthly basis I got is down to a science.
1) Install XP
2) From a USB drive I use the latest version of XP updates from http://www.autopatcher.com/
3) Hook up the network cable and validate and DL any other updates.
4) Install any drivers not seen by XP.
5) DL Foxfire (or USB drive)
6) Install Office and any updates.
7) Install MS Anti-spyware (The first program MS got right)
8) Install anti-virus and make a restore point.
The last thing I alway do is install the anti-virus so that it don't slow down the other installs.
