The next in a long line of PowerToys for Windows is almost here, and if you're an early adopter you can
get your hands on the beta.
SyncToy is a utility for those of us that work on multiple systems, and
need to synchronize files between them. The impetus for this utility
appears to be the growing trend of people having a machine in their
home that is a dedicated media file server, storing photos, videos and
music. For anyone that would like to be able to automatically
synchronize folders between PCs, this utility looks like it might be
worth your time. Given its classification as a "PowerToy",
Microsoft does not officially support it. However, if it lives up to
the quality of the other PowerToys for XP, this will not be a problem.
I must mention that the process that is required now to download software
from Microsoft is so time consuming (with all the Windows Genuine
Advantage garbage) that you may find jumping through the hoops isn't
worth it.

I thought SyncToy is alright, but can't beat the auto syncing that is part of the current sync tool I use, Allway Sync. The latest beat has some funky Scheduling as well as the auto syncing (including When
device is connected, every X mins or so many mins after the last file change happened).

After my 'great' experiences with my new tablet and the not working Education and Enhancement Packs (because they won't install their english speaking software on a german XP as it seems) I am curious if I can even install the software :(

Don't try to use this tool with a directory tree that has a lot of files. A lot being something over 100,000. I tried to use it to backup source files and killed the process after waiting over 30 minites for it to "START" copying files.
The tool I use for this (Beyond Compare) works much faster and uses a ton less memroy. SyncToy is written in .NET and is a memory pig.
