Longhorn to ship Fall 2006, maybe
From the PR-fails-to-inspire-consumer-confidence department, according to InformationWeek Microsoft has announced that Longhorn (the next version of Windows) will be released in the fall of next year but that it could slip to the following year. Also, they announced that the developer edition will be available in September.
Is there a betting pool for Windows releases? I'm putting my money on January 2007.

It looks like Apple will be shipping their next OS by then as well. Come on Microsoft. What's taking so long?

Tisk tisk... All the more time for MS to drop more "features" from Longhorn. I have a feeling that by the time it gets shipped, it's gonna be officially renamed to XP Service Pack 3.

Microsoft keeps backing up their Longhorn release right into Apple's Intel debut. If Microsoft isn't careful, I think they may have a MAJOR problem on their hands.
