Browser Tip of the Day: Browster speeds up surfing in IE

Browster

It may come to you as a surprise that some people still use Internet Explorer, and still more surprisingly, some folks are making IE plugins that aren't just spyware. Browster seems to be one such plugin. Browster is a combination prefetcher and search aid. Browster is configured only to prefetch links on certain popular sites (e.g. Google, Yahoo!, Craigslist), and when it has prefetched a link it places a lightning bolt icon next to it. When you mouse over the icon, Browster displays the prefetched page superimposed on the current page. If you're looking at a set of search results, this lets you quickly preview each result without navigating away from the search page, and you can flip among the previews using the scroll wheel. And though Browster is only set up to work with particular sites, you can turn it on for any site with a context menu item. Browster is free, but ad-supported, though from the screenshots the ads look like non-intrusive text ads.

I recall seeing recently a Greasmonkey script that did something similar for Google (without the prefetching, though), but can't find it currently.

[Thanks, Marc]
