Stitch together photo panoramas with Hugin

Lots of great programs exist to take multiple photos and stitch them together into panoramas, but not very many are multi-platform and open source. Hugin is, and though it doesn't look quite as simple as others, the results look fantastic.

Hugin's stitching capabilities are great, but it isn't too good when it comes to seemless blending - people interested in Hugin might want to try out Enblend (OSS) to do the stitching work instead. More info in my recent Web-Graphics tutorial in which I explain how to install and use Hugin + Enblend.
N.B.: As pointed out in the comments of my howto, Autostitch (freeware, Windows only) combines stitching and blending and does an equally outstanding job (with less effort).
