eWEEK says that a week after acquisition talks between Microsoft and spyware company Claria (nee Gator) were
first reported, Microsoft's has downgraded Claria's software in its own Windows Anti-Spyware. When the program detects spyware from Claria such as Dashbar, Gator, and GAIN, it
now recommends that it be ignored rather than removed or quarantined. According to Sunbeltblog (the corporate blog of Sunbelt Software, which sells its own anti-spyware product), the downgrade
came with the March 31 update of the Windows Anti-Spyware database.

MS, you should be ashamed of yourself. How long until you're selling our personal info as well? How much money is it worth to sacrifice the trust of your users? Gator is the app we all think of when we think of spyware/adware, and you condone it because you now own it. Disgusting.

That is ridiculous. Microsoft putting money over the end-users? Believable.

Interesting to note that Claria's new platform is called "Vista Marketing Services" and the new Windows platform is also called "Vista"...
What's going on here... sounds like there might be a copyright problem if MS doesn't go through with the purchase anyway....
