Microsoft Makes Peace With IBM Antitrust Claims

IBM logoI'm always amazed at how long this stuff takes: Microsoft finally settled antitrust claims from IBM that hail all the way back to the government's antitrust litigation against Microsoft in the mid-90's. IBM's charges claim discriminatory pricing and overcharging practices, but also cover claims for (what I assume was) the obliteration of their OS/2 operating system and SmartSuite desktop app.

The damages awarded? A nice round $775 million payment to IBM, as well as a $75 million "gift certificate" good towards Microsoft software.

One stipulation of the settlements: IBM agrees not to seek monetary damages for their server products for two years, and if they do make claims after that time they can't touch events prior to June 30th 2002.
