Betawatch: OdeoSyncr
Jordan mentioned the Odeo invite-only beta test that is currently underway, and since I'm one of the lucky invitees, I thought I'd write up a quick review of the app associated with the service: Odeo Syncr. This little app has a variant for both Windows and OS X, but at this early point, it is a pass. Really, Odeo Syncr's only function is to download podcasts that you've subscribed to via the Odeo service and launch them in your audio player of choice.Since my audio player of choice is iTunes 4.9, which now has podcast ability, I think I just lost all use for this program.

I have to agree. I dowloaded it a couple of days ago and my reaction was "so what?".

I don't. The podcasting capabilities of iTunes really disappoint me actually, I like looking at extended descriptions of shows and having the ability to comment on shows/channels, like Odeo supports.
And I wouldn't be surprised if a future version of the Odeo Syncr contained the ability to include downloaded podcasts in the Podcast section of iTunes.
Actually i just realized that I could probably add the RSS feed of my Odeo Subscriptions capabiliities [located on the Sync page in Odeo], and get iTunes to do it for me.
Yeah you're right. I'm wrong. But that'll be cool, if my idea works...

Update: ha! It worked. You can plug in your Odeo podcast feed into iTunes and use it to download all your podcasts immediately.
That's brilliant. I like the Odeo interface better, but I like the Podcast auto-update and bookmarking features too. The best of both worlds.

My thoughts exactly. They need to get the creation tools out of Alpha asap or this will be as dead as Kinja.
