Growl - Be Aware

I've been wishing for something like this for years, and I just gotta share the goodness: Growl is a "global notification system" for Mac OS X. Basically, Growl works with a whole bunch of OS X programs and displays a slick looking notification window (see image) to let you know when something happens. New Mail messages, the next song in iTunes, whether buddies come on or offline in iChat or my personal favorite - Adium.. Growl's got you covered. In fact, there's a massive and growing list of 3rd party Growl-friendly applications, so I'd highly recommend hopping on the train now before Growl goes and gets all famous and won't return any of our phone calls...

Actually Growl is open source, so you can hop in on the fun, help out or play around to your heart's content. As icing on the cake: Growl is also very customizable. There's a good selection of notification types and styles, with the ability to make your own. Want an email sent when something happens? Or maybe you want OS X to speak certain notifications instead of displaying a message? Go nuts - it's all there. I highly recommend this app as I've been using it for quite some time. In fact I'm so used to Growl now that other Macs just don't feel quite right anymore..
