Adium X Unites Chat Networks

Adium screenshotFor any of you OS X users out there (10.2 or higher) who are wondering if there's anything beyond the regular chat apps like iChat, Yahoo and MSN, I present to you: Adium X - a multi-network, highly customizable and functional open source chat application. (Oh yea, it's free too.) Adium's big claim to fame is that it will allow you to combine buddy lists from just about any major chat network under the sun (and even some not-so-major) into one list, cutting down on screen clutter and eliminating the need to run a bunch of separate applications. However, this is by far not the only thing to write home about Adium.

Beyond this major unifying function, Adium offers a lot of enhancements and personalizing options over the typical chatting experience such as tabbed chat windows (I can't tell you enough how cool that is) and serious style-ability with tons of downloadable message and buddy list styles. Yet another very handy trick up Adium's sleeve is system integration: Adium can work with a few other programs (like Growl, another favorite of mine) to pass information around, and it's Applescript-able!

You can check out their Xtras page to get at all these goodies I've mentioned, and since it's Open Source you can also check out their support pages for a wiki and project timeline details. So run - don't walk - and grab a copy of this most excellent of chat apps.
